Oh, what a night! - Visibility’s Digital Dynamos take the trophy

With thousands of amazing charities from across the country applying for the Scottish Charity Awards 2015, Visibility were thrilled to have been included in the 31 nominated for an award and attending the ceremony on the 4th of June. Representing Visibility on behalf of the Let’s Get Digital project, which supports people with sight loss to develop their digital technology skills, were tech experts Jamie Bruce, Fraser Fleming and Kris Adams alongside Fundraising staff Clare Lappin and Sarah Quinn, and head volunteer Pauline Hart. The evening began with a glamorous drinks reception and introduction to the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, before a delicious dinner was followed by the nominations for each category being announced by Kaye Adams. Awards included Charity of the Year, Cracking Campaign and the category in which Visibility was nominated - Digital Dynamo. When the moment came for the Digital Dynamo category to be announced, we were all filled with excitement.  The golden envelope was opened and read aloud as we sat in silence. “…And the Digital Dynamo winner is…Visibility!!!” Our jaws dropped to the floor before reality sank in and Fraser took to the stage to collect our award. It was a great pleasure to have been selected as the winner in this category, as we were nominated alongside many other outstanding charities that all deserve huge congratulations. In the last 2 years we have delivered technology training to over 120 people with visual impairments across the region.  We are continuing to provide FREE training sessions at the Visibility offices through the summer and we have equipment available for people to use in the sessions. If you are thinking of buying a tablet or a mobile phone, come to Visibility for a demonstration of Apple and Android phones and tablets.  We will show you how the accessibility features can help you to phone, text and use the internet.  The trainer will also show you how they use their mobile technology on a daily basis, and will explore a range of apps that are regularly used by people who are visually impaired. If you would like to find out more about these sessions and become a digital dynamo too, please call Visibility on 0141 332 4632 for more information.
