Aims & objectivesEmployability Orkney was a project originally launched and funded by a partnership between Orkney Islands Council, HIE Orkney, Jobcentre Plus and Orkney Disability Forum. The remit of the partnership was to focus on the employment barriers being faced by socially excluded people in the Orkney community. This includes individuals with a learning disability, physical disability, mental health needs, alcohol/substance misuse needs, ex-offenders, care leavers, long-term unemployed and anyone who experiences a disadvantage in entering the labour market.

Duties and responsibilities -
•Greet customers who enter the shop with a courteous and pleasant manner.
•To be involved in stock control, rotation and stock management.
•Assist customers to find the goods they are looking for.
•Responsible for processing cash.
•Answer queries from customers.
•Report discrepancies and problems to the supervisor.
•Give advice and guidance on suitability of item.
•Balance cash with receipts.
•Deal with customer refunds.
•Keep the shop tidy and clean on a daily basis which includes hoovering and mopping.
•Assist in creating attractive shop displays and keep them looking presentable at all times.
•Responsible for dealing with customer complaints.
•Attach price tags to items for sale and ensure there are codes on the items.
•Responsible for the security of the shop for instance cash not left in site and all lights off and doors locked at end of the day.
•Liaise with workshop, warehouse and van supervisors.
•Arrange delivery times and dates for bought goods and donations.
•To fill out appropriate paper work.
•To record number of customers.
•Record codes from items sold.
•Complete daily taking slip.
•To add and remove items entering and leaving the shop on computer programme.
•To take photographs of items entering the shop and upload them onto the system.
•Check till and float at end and beginning of shift.
•Work within established guidelines and policies.
•Having a friendly and engaging personality.
