Lochaber Hope is a Life Skills and Personal Development Centre, a charity based in Fort William which aims to assist people from all of Lochaber who may be experiencing vulnerable or crisis periods in their lives to regain and build their self esteem and self worth, to be able to participate fully in family, community and employment. Services include confidential counselling, mentoring, employability, training and peer support groups.
Lochaber Hope seeks to employ a Project Assistant who will be responsible to the Project Co-ordinator and will support and assist the Lochaber Hope team to ensure the smooth running of the project.
Reporting to the Project Manager the job will be based in at the Lochaber Hope office in Fort William and may involve occasional evening and week-end working; training will be given and the project worker will be expected to develop with the Project.
The project workers initial brief will be:
• To welcome and deal with visitors and customers; given the nature of Lochaber’s Hope services; this requires tact, discretion and the ability to use one’s own initiative
• To carry out administrative duties such as dealing with mail (franking, distributing and posting) creating posters and simple spreadsheets, typing copy, filing and promoting events
• To monitor events and meeting bookings, ensuring rooms are tidy and prepared, and that there are adequate provisions (refreshments, stationery, flip charts, projector, etc.)
• To undertake health and safety checks, such as regular checks of fire and security alarms, monitoring and reporting potential hazards, maintaining first aid provisions, and serving as a first aider and fire warden.
• To assist and support in the running of Lochaber Hope’s “Open House” drop in service
• In collaboration with other team members and volunteers, to undertake and develop projects, such as Healthy Working Lives initiative and peer support groups
• To assist the keyholders with the opening and closing procedures of the premises
• To support existing staff and volunteers to deliver LH services.
Compliance with current legislation, adoption of health and safety practices and risk management, knowledge of the policies and the philosophy of Lochaber Hope are essential.
Confidentiality, setting and maintaining boundaries are also essential to this post as is championing and maintaining the positive image of Lochaber Hope.
A suitable candidate will be innovative, imaginative, creative and passionate about their part in taking the Lochaber Hope vision and turning it into reality. They will be enthusiastic, an excellent listener, resourceful and have a genuine interest in working with people. Adoption of a non-judgemental approach will be essential. They will be able to deal with confidential information, set and adhere to boundaries, be flexible and have the ability to work on their own initiative. Confidence in dealing with visitors and handling phone enquiries is essential, and training in this area can be provided “on the job” provided the candidate has a desire to develop this skill. They will be required to work some evenings and weekends and be willing to undergo training as required.
Enhanced PVG Disclosure Scotland status will be mandatory.
