Aims & objectives

To provide individual advocacy for: people who have mental health problems including dementia; people who have learning disabilities; older people who are frail; people who have homelessness issues; other people who do not fit these categories but are in urgent need of advocacy, subject to discretion.

Job description

Research new sources of income in the form of grants and sponsorship, charitable trusts and foundations, corporate and statutory bodies, donors and other sources, prepare applications to meet their closing dates.

Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, some of which may be events based.

Organise traditional fundraising activities e.g. raffle, donation boxes.

Work with all forms of media including Facebook, Twitter, etc. and produce supporting materials such as posters to market and promote forthcoming events.

Prepare mail shots and correspondence, build and maintain profitable, long-term relationships with donors and prospective donors.

Work with colleagues to attract volunteers by raising community awareness of our organisation and its role throughout the Highlands.

Network with other fundraisers.

Take part in induction, training, support and supervision.

Prepare and present feedback reports to the Manager, Board of Directors as well as funding bodies as needed.

Person specification

E Ability to communicate successfully with funders and funding bodies.

E Ability to write funding applications.

E Able to present the values, role and ethos of the organisation to a range of audiences.

E Promote a positive image of disability.

D Able to work independently and take responsibility for own time management.

D Experience of organising events, volunteering or fundraising would be an advantage.

D Willingness to travel throughout the Highlands and occasionally to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

D Able to work occasional evenings or weekend hours such as to attend fundraising events.
