Job description

Job Title: Media Technician

Based at: Fablevision Studios, Unit 24, The Paisley Centre, High St Paisley, PA1 2AQ

Reporting to: Fablevision Studios Creative Manager

The Media Technician plays a key role in the Fablevision Studios team. They will be responsible for all technical aspects of production from initial client consultation and concept creation to scripting, filming and editing finished product and will work closely with our freelance specialists on a project to project basis to deliver a final output.

The Media Technician will also be involved in training of

volunteers participating in projects run by parent company Fablevision.

Key Responsibilities:

● Liaison with director and/or other staff to interpret the creative vision of the client

● Advising on the purchase / hire of suitable equipment

● Visiting and assessing locations for technical and health and safety purposes

● Deciding on crew numbers and equipment needed, hiring crew and equipment if required

● Co-ordinating equipment and technical crew and training volunteer crew members as

required

● Ensuring all equipment is in working order, assembling equipment on site, organising (along

side the Creative Manager) all necessary scaffolding and cranes

● De-rigging all equipment at the end of a shoot and ensuring it is safely transported and stored

● Planning shots and reviewing footage with director

● Finding solutions to technical or other practical problems e.g. outside broadcasts

● Assessing the acoustics of the filming/performance areas and setting up, testing and operating equipment accordingly

● Choosing, placing, adjusting and operating technical amplification and recording equipment such as microphones and cables bearing both sound and visual requirements in mind

● Applying technical knowledge of sound recording equipment to create the required artistic effect in a variety of environments

● Recording sound in a studio or on location, onto digital audio tape or hard disc recorders

● Monitoring audio signals to detect sound quality deviations or malfunctions and anticipating and solving problems with sound quality that may arise during recording

● Working with the Adobe Creative Suite in post production

● Creating a “rough cut” of the programme/film and determining the exact cutting for the next and final stages

● Preparation and running of training workshops for students

This job description forms part of your contract of employment and exists to give and indication of

the duties and responsibilities that the post may currently involve. The exact nature of these duties

and responsibilities may be subject to change over time and the post holder will be expected to carry

out any work commensurate with their grade that may be required of them.

Person specification

Ideally the successful candidate will be confident and friendly, pay extremely close attention to detail, have a good knowledge of the third sector and social enterprises in particular, have an interest in employment, culture, heritage and community and be willing to help out with all aspects of projects when it comes to delivery as we are a small tight knit team.
