Job description

Client Support:

• Assist in coordinating the day-to-day running of designated Active Ageing sessions

• Engage with staff and volunteers to provide appropriate person-centred care

• Engage with staff and volunteers to promote client independence

• Assist in engaging with staff, volunteers and clients to provide a varied programme of client activities in line with the Active Ageing model of care

• Assist in ensuring planned activities are appropriate to clients' needs and wishes

• Assist in liaising with the Session Coordinator regarding provision of nutritious and appropriate snacks and ensure session staff and volunteers are aware of any special client dietary requirements

• Assist in engaging with carers and other agencies as necessary

• Assist in ensuring the sessions run within ACG’s Policies and Procedures, Operational Guidelines, and all other relevant legislation

• Notify the Session Coordinator of any issues/improvements

Volunteer Support:

• Assist in supporting volunteers to coordinate the day-to-day running of Active Ageing sessions

• Provide cover to coordinate pre and post session meetings to keep staff and volunteers updated as required

• Assist in ensuring all necessary daily tasks and volunteer roles are carried out competently

• Provide cover to ensure that daily cash takings are handled appropriately as required

• Assist in ensuring appropriate monitoring procedures are undertaken and documented appropriately

• Assist in ensuring that staff and volunteers know their roles and boundaries

• Fulfil role of key volunteers who are absent or the role is vacant as necessary


• Make effective use of training opportunities available through ACG and other organisations

• Attend regular team meetings to discuss client, volunteer and centre issues

• Complete a personal daily log and submit to the Manager on a weekly basis

• Carry out all work within the policies, procedures and standards of ACG

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required (all essential):-

Qualifications and training -

Emergency First Aid*

Moving and Handling Awareness*

Food Hygiene Awareness'

ACG's Basic Dementia Awareness*

ACG's Advanced Dementia Awareness*

*training can be provided by ACG

Work related experience:

Interest in working with older people, including people with dementia

Interest in deliverying activities for older people with dementia

Interest in working with volunteers


Understanding or older peoples' needs

Understanding of delivering person centred care

Work related skills:

Able to work on own initiative; but also as a team member

Sound knowledge of IT including Word

Personal Attributes:

Excellent interpersonal skills

Able to organise and motivate self and others confidently

Able to complete taks with efficiency, high quality and by set deadlines

Diplomacy, loyalty, honesty and integrity, as well as a commitment to ACG's values

Additional information

The role also includes - setting up the day room, serving snacks/refreshments and general housekeeping duties (including cleaning from time to time and minibus escort duties to cover holidays as required)
