Reasons to join SCVO policy committee

If there was ever a time when our sector needed creative thinking and strong vision, it's now. The war on charities continues apace. The grip of austerity is getting tighter. And the air of distrust circling public fundraising refuses to die down. The challenges are huge - but if you’re a glass half-full kind of person like me, then so are the opportunities. Joining our policy committee is a brilliant way to shape the third sector agenda. And, if I’m being frank, it comes with the opportunity to influence SCVO’s thinking. Beyond that, it lets people with policy interests connect with like-minded colleagues, and gain valuable career enhancing experience. But don't just count on my word for it. Here's what current committee member Iain Gordon from Bethany Christian Trust has to say: "SCVO's Policy Committee is a great forum within which to bring and share perspectives from our part of the sector and from the people who use our services. "In the fast-changing Holyrood and Westminster policy environment the Policy Committee offers a space to discuss the Third sector’s input and response to government policies that affect the people who use our services. "Policy Committee meetings are often stimulating places to be with so many bright and passionate people engaging in lively and purposeful debate." The committee's work is shared in an open forum. Check out the kind of topics covered in the papers from the last meeting. If you know of someone who would make a great addition to the committee, or if you are interested in getting involved, then do consider making a nomination. Our policy committee is a collective voice for the third sector on all matters of general concern to charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises in Scotland. Those elected will play a crucial role in developing important third sector policies, as well as connecting with government, local authorities, the private sector and the public at large. Nominations for the policy committee can be made by downloading and completing the relevant forms from our website.
