This year has been monumental in the fightback against Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In January we saw the launch of the UK’s biggest MND drug trial, thanks to the many fundraisers, researchers and leaders in our community. This means almost everyone in Scotland will now have access to a drug trial and hope of a cure.
MND is a rapidly progressing terminal illness, which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. This can rob someone of the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink or breathe unaided. There is no cure or effective treatment and average life expectancy from diagnosis is just 18 months.
