The possible, not the perfect: changing funders’ practice to better serve voluntary organisations
Hosted by Corra Foundation
Date: Wednesday 20 February
Time: 11.45am – 12.45pm
Room: Dochart Suite
Corra Foundation in partnership with Scottish Funders Forum and IVAR (Institute for Voluntary Action Research) invite funders and voluntary organisations to a session at The Gathering 2019 exploring how funders respond to social need as well as considering how funders can support development of practice in Scotland.
The event will begin by sharing two recent research pieces from IVAR: Duty of Care: The role of trusts and foundations in supporting voluntary organisations through difficult times (October 2012) and Duty to Care? How to ensure grant-making helps and doesn’t hinder (early 2019).
Participants will be invited to reflect on the findings of the research and consider the extent funders can adapt their practice to better serve the voluntary sector.
The session will also provide the opportunity to build on discussions elicited from the Civil Society Futures conversation event (held by Corra Foundation with partners in August 2018).
The event will aim to consider:
- What can we learn from how funders respond to crisis as well as long term social need?
- What are the challenges posed to funders when responding to social need and societal developments?
- How can funders advance their own approaches to better support voluntary organisations to develop their practice?
