Job description

The traineeship will provide employability training and work experience for the job role of Community Centre Café and Kitchen Assistant with the main requirements of the post being:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Skills and experience with fresh food preparation.

2. Skills in cash handling and till systems

3. Application of appropriate food hygiene procdures

4. Safe working practices and adherence to health and safety legislation.

5. Maintaining accurate records and data.

6. Menu planning.

7. Stock control and reordering of stock and practices to prevent food waste.

8. Knowledge of allergen intolerences, good practice and legislation

9. To work on a shift rota basis and cover weekends and evenings when required.

Person specification

The traineeship will offer employability work experience, training and skills development opportunities towards work readiness to achieve the following person specification:

Essential:

- Neat and tidy appearance;

- Pleasant friendly manner;

- Able to work on own initiative or as part of a team;

- Motivated in all aspects of the role;

Desirable:

- Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision

2. Qualifications (e.g. Education, Training, Experience)

Essentials:

- Food Hygiene Certificate

Desirable:

- First Aid Certificate

- Fire Safety Certificate

- Health and Safety Certificate

3. Experience (e.g Organisational, Supervisory etc)

Essential:

- Experience of dealing with the public;

- Experience in working in a café or similar environment;

- Experience of cleaning duties to maintain a clean& tidy café.

Desirable:

- Experience of catering for functions and events.

4. Skills & Attributes Applicable to Post

Essential:

- Good timekeeping.

- Conscientious.

- Ability to communicate effectively with customer;

- Flexible approach

- Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision

Desirable:

- Ability to engage well with community members.

- Keep up to date with the centres activities and promote services to customers and community members

Additional information

Cadder Hills Café provides an affordable and accessible community café resource within the Centre and is operational 6 days a week 8am-2pm to offer breakfast club and lunches with potential for continued expansion to provide evening meals and catering.
