Aims & objectives

Coalburn Miners Welfare Charitable Society runs a community centre including a social club, café, One stop shop, and childcare facilities. The society aims to inject crucial investment into this community that has suffered from the deep-rooted consequences of the demise of deep mining. We aim to transform this centre from a community centre trying to earn some income into a thriving social enterprise, trading successfully to ensure long term sustainability while meeting the needs of local people.

Job description

The position will involve recycling goods, dealing with customers, keeping the Centre both inside and out clean and tidy, disposing of refuse, helping with Biomass maintenance and making sure it is working each day, and other day to day maintenance duties relevant to the position. The position will give the applicant the opportunity to improve their personal development and customer care skills. The applicant will be able to access internal training in the hospitality trade which will enhance their CV leading to better job prospects. Currently there is a Employability service based within the Centre and applicants are encouraged to attend. This will allow them to access the job market, upgrade their CV's and learn interview techniques etc.

Person specification

The person must be smart, punctual and willing to learn and be reasonably confident dealing with members of the public. No previous experience is necessary as relevant training will be provided.

Additional information

The successful applicant will have access to internal training in the hospitality industry and will also be able to undertake bar training. A new Connect 2 Renewables employability service is now based within the Centre to assist with job search.
