Organised Interests in Scottish Public Policy: Questionnaire Survey Results

This working paper is one of the outputs of 'The mobilisation of organised interests in Scotland' project at The Robert Gordon University (RGU). It builds on previous research conducted at RGU during 2006 entitled The mobilisation of interests in policy making: access, activity and bias in the ?group system?. It provides a basic outline of responses to a questionnaire sent to a sample of 1,459 non-governmental organisations identified as having responded to at least one Scottish Executive consultation exercise during the post devolution period of June 1999 to May 2007. It profiles responding organisations in terms of citizen groups, professional associations, collective businesses, service charities and trade unions. It investigates organisational structure, age, income, staffing levels, purpose and activities, including frequency and importance of advocacy. It examines organisational survival strategies and explores issues relating to Scottish Executive consultation exercises. Further analysis will be published during 2009.
