Scottish Cot Death Trust

The Scottish Cot Death Trust was formed in 1985, is Scotland’s only charity dedicated to the sudden unexpected deaths in infants (SUDI) and has 3 charitable aims:

  • Supporting families bereaved by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or young child
  • Funding medical research in to the cause(s) and prevention of these tragic deaths
  • Raising awareness of SUDI and how the risks can be reduced through education

Our small team of five staff is based in Glasgow but we provide support and education services throughout Scotland.

As part of the bereavement support we provide to families, we offer community based outreach support, with a dedicated support worker visiting them at home and having weekly contact. We fund specialist bereavement counselling for family members including play therapy for siblings. Peer support is an important aspect of the service – linking family members with others who have a shared experience.

Our Next Infant Support Programme (NISP) aims to help parents who become pregnant after experiencing such a tragic loss.

We deliver face to face safe sleep education to professionals and parents across Scotland free of charge.

We have funded in excess of £3.3 million into medical research.
